WELCOME TO THE RIOT!

Greeting comrades,

Welcome to the Toronto Toy Riot Newsletter!

We are now 1 MONTH AWAY from the show!
We have a few exciting developments we’d like to share with you this week!

A New Challenger Has Entered the Arena!

As part of our ethos of accessibility, we believe it's critical to support emerging makers and artists. As such, we've invited OcadU 's Plastic Studio Club to join us! They'll have a table and will be there all weekend alongside 30 other artists

Short Bio: “Hi, we are the Plastic Studio Club. We are a student-led group at OCAD University with a focus on supporting student ideas and exploring the endless possibilities of plastic!”

Welcome to the Riot, @plasticstudioclub. 🤜🤛

Toronto Toy Riot Poster Campaign has begun!

If you’re out and about in Toronto, you may have already seen the early bits of our city-wide postering campaign! OPS member Doc Horror has been hitting the pavement, and the Plastic Studio Club has thrown our posters up all over OcadU!  You’ll be seeing much more of this over the month!

If you can help us with postering, or know of some local indie businesses that would host a poster, please let us know - [email protected]

Toronto Toy Riot Community Table!

Thank you to everyone who signed up to participate in our community table programme! We’re excited to announce that we have 17 artists from around the world who signed up, making our show a truly international event! That puts the number of participating artists to just under 50 for our inaugural show!

Toronto Toy Riot KITBASH TABLE!

While the event will feature the work of many talented artists that you can view and purchase, we believe that art toys are an accessible medium!!! We believe that so strongly, that we’re hosting the Toronto Toy Riot Kitbash Table!

For a small fee of $20, you can come to the show and make your own 3 ¾ inch scale art toy, with a 6 x 9 inch backer card. Put it all together in a clear plastic clamshell, and hang it on your wall!

Kitbashing is the tried and true practice of taking different pieces from different toys and action figures, and reassembling them into new configurations! You’ll be able to choose from different parts and pieces, glue them together, and add some paint! In addition, you’ll get a blank backer card to make your own art for your toy! We’ll have paints, markers and old print media for collaging for your creations!

We’ll have people on hand to help you through the different parts of making your art toy! This event is great for those interested in making their own toys of any age: kids, adults, whoever!

A special thank you to DKE Toys for their sponsorship and support of the Kitbash Table!

Call For Volunteers! Volunteer, Get a T-shirt!

Running events can be difficult - and we’re a very small team.. So we thought we would reach out and ask for some folks for support through volunteering!

We could use help with postering and postcard distribution, and some extra bodies to help everything run smoothly during the event. Moving tables, relieving Toy Riot staff at their tables when needed, supervising the Kitbash Table, where people will be making their own Art Toys, etc

If you are interested in volunteering, we can ply you with snacks, pizza, and our gratitude! More than that, volunteer for us and we’ll give you a Toronto Toy Riot T-Shirt of your preferred size to wear at the event, and to keep afterwards!

If you are interested in helping out the show and supporting our community through volunteering, please visit https://www.torontotoyriot.ca/volunteer and fill out the form! We’ll follow up with you via email!
